❝ Anonymous asked: How many white and blonde actresses in their 50s and 60s have Meryl’s career? None. Meryl is where she is because she is in a league of her own. I agree with your assessment of Viola’s career and the state of minority actors in Hollywood but saying Meryl became Meryl Streep simply because she is white and blond is grossly offensive. Meryl has a rare ability to “transform” and that has helped her longevity.

All I’m saying is that only a white, conventionally attractive woman (with talent) can have a career such as hers. Yes, there are not many of her peers who match her in that respect but I don’t think that has as much to do with her talent as it does with the Myth of Meryl Streep. Glenn Close, Kathy Bates, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Angelica Huston, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett, and Diane Lane (all these women have worked in the last 2  years) are all actresses over 40 who - though they may not have Meryl’s career - certainly have careers (and nominations) that eclipse those of WOC simply because they have more roles. And they have more roles because more roles are written for them. And more roles are written for them because they are white. That’s really all I’m saying.
